Man Flees, Leaves Child in Car During Routine Traffic Stop: Cops

Miami-Dade Police said they have the man's identity and will catch him

Authorities stopped a search for a man who allegedly fled on foot during a routine traffic stop in Miami-Dade County Friday, leaving his child behind in a car.

Miami-Dade Police said they know the man's identity and will they will catch him. But in the meantime, they opened the area at NW 7th Street and 82 Avenue, which had been cordoned off during the search.

Traffic in the area had been clogged, and residents weren't allowed to get to their homes, as helicopters and SWAT looked for him.

Authorities said the man went to pick up his child from school and took off running after the stop. Police said he was authorized to take the child.

It wasn't immediately clear why he fled.

The child's mother was en route to pick up the child, police said.
