Car 54, Who Took You?

Sounds like someone just wanted a (fully armed) New Year's joyride.

It's bad enough losing your keys, but when a Miami-Dade County marked patrol car containing two bulletproof vests, two laptops, and two .38 caliber revolvers disappears from a gas station, you know it's not going to be a good New Year's.

That's the debacle faced by an unfortunate unnamed patrolman last night, when the car he parked at an Exxon gas station at 6120 NW 27th Ave. was no longer there when he returned for it about 10:45 p.m.

Alarmed at the thought of the arms and equipment falling into the wrong hands, the police launched a frantic search. The car was found, everything still inside, a few hours later off Northwest 207th Street.

It wasn't clear where the officer responsible for the car was when it disappeared, but it's a sure thing his superiors know by now -- and that he's been asked to lock the darn thing up when he leaves it.

As for the perpetrators, well, we're not crime-solving experts, but may we suggest checking out the whereabouts of the Tennessee football team?

Just a thought.
