Miami's pedestrian accident rate may inspire street signs like this.

So here is another reason why Miamians refuse to exercise. It's down right deadly. At least walking around the Magic City is, according to a study that ranks the most dangerous metropolitan areas for pedestrians.

Miami has the third most dangerous streets in America because the roads are designed to encourage cars to speed up, not slow down. Well, duh! That's why we drive such hot cars.

The Dangerous By Design study, authored by the Surface Transportation Policy Partnership and Transportation for America, ranked four Florida cities at the top of the list. Orlando received the dubious distinction as the top "Do not cross the street" area in the nation with a rate of 2.9 pedestrian deaths per 100,000 residents.

Miami has a slightly better death by speeding car rate of 3.04.

Sounds like walkers should invest in some sturdy protective gear and a helmet before crossing the street.

Despite all the maniac drivers during rush hour and commuters who turn into speed racers on neighborhood roads, Miami's car vs. human fatality rate is relatively low in the nation because most people would rather drive than walk anyway.

So now we finally know the answer to the mystery of why Mr. Clucky didn't cross the road.

He didn't want to end up road kill.
