Teen Girl Gunned Down on Miami Street

17-year-old killed, man injured as gunman unleashes hail of nearly 50 bullets

A teen girl was killed and a man is in critical condition after a gunman unleashed a hail of bullets on a Miami street late Thursday night.

The shooting happened shortly after 11 p.m. near Northwest 2nd Ave. and 64th St., when a burgundy SUV pulled over, and a passenger hopped out and opened fire on the pair, according to police.

The 17-year-old girl, identified by police as Lexis Ray, was struck several times, and was rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital where she died.

"That young girl lost her life at just 17 years old and it appears she was just going home and was nearly at her house when she was riddled with bullets," said Miami Police spokeswoman Kenia Reyes. "It appears she was just an innocent bystander and now she has lost her life."

The young man who was shot, identified as 19-year-old John Baker, is in critical condition.

Police at the scene had found nearly 50 bullet casings on the ground.

The gunman fled the scene in the SUV and is still at large.
