Authorities said a 13-year-old girl was treated and released after being bitten by a shark in the waters off central Florida.

Alexandra Masterson, from Boca Raton, was body-surfing Sunday afternoon in New Smyrna Beach when she felt something hit her, according to the Sun Sentinel.

She told the Sentinel she initially thought she had been bitten by a turtle on the calf, because it didn't hurt too badly, but doctors treating her told her she was likely bitten by a spinner shark.

Beachgoers were allowed into the water about 30 minutes later, according to NBC affiliate WESH.

This was the sixth shark bite of the season in Volusia County.
