2 Dead in Coral Gables Crash Involving Local DJ

Police were investigating a fatal Coral Gables car crash Sunday

Two people are dead after a crash involving in Coral Gables that involved a local DJ, officials said.

Coral Gables and Miami police officers responded to the crash at Southwest 8th Street and Douglas Road Sunday at 1:22 a.m., according to a Coral Gables Police Department news release.

Both cars were going eastbound on Southwest 8th Street, when one of the cars stopped for the traffic light at Douglas Road and the second car hit it from behind, authorities said.

The two people in the first car, Maria Martinez, 44, and Marlon Gutierrez, 34, of Sweetwater, died in the crash, officials said.

The driver of the second car, Ervens Prudent, 26, of North Miami, was transported to Ryder Trauma Center due to serious injuries, the release said.

Prudent, better known as DJ A.O.L. in his North Miami community, is a producer and songwriter.

Friend Dizzy, an aspiring performer, met Prudent at a music event a few weeks ago.

"It's just crazy that I can see someone one day and be in his picture and then wow," Dizzy said.

Dizzy is represented by Defyne Entertainment which credits him for putting North Miami on the map of the music scene.

Police said there were no other passengers in either car.

Officials did not immediately release further details as the Coral Gables Police Department's Traffic Homicide Unit investigated the case.
