Authorities say alcohol played a role in a crash that killed two young children and also injured seven others when a sports utility vehicle overturned in northeast Florida.
The Florida Highway Patrol says the crash happened Saturday night in Fernandina Beach, which is north of Jacksonville. Killed were 9-year-old Nicholai Capallia and 8-year-old Nehemiah Capallia-Bird.
The Florida Times-Union reports nine people were in the SUV driven by 33-year-old Tonya Capallia-Eason.
An incident report says the driver failed to negotiate a right-hand curve in the road and the SUV veered across the road and into a grassy shoulder. It hit a utility pole and overturned.
Troopers say the injured passengers included children ages 15, 14, 13, and 7. All were taken to a Jacksonville Hospital. The 7-year-old sustained critical injuries.
