16-Year-Old Dies Following Tuesday Night Shooting in Miami

A 16-year-old who was rushed to the hospital following a shooting Tuesday night in Miami has died.

The shooting happened near northwest 31st Street and 17th Avenue. A Miami Police spokesperson said one adult was also shot along with the teen, identified as Damien Ramirez.

Both were taken to Ryder Trauma Center, while a third victim was treated at the scene. Ramirez died early Wednesday morning while the second victim remains in stable condition.

"They took my son's life. He was not an animal, he was a 16-year-old boy," mother Lisette Lantigua told NBC 6 Wednesday. "He will be missed because they took part of my heart with them."

Ramirez was popular in his Allapattah neighborhood and had lots of friends, his mother said.

"He was a super outgoing boy, fun, energetic, goofy, playful, always wanting to do jokes on his friends," she said. "He meant no harm to no one, he did not deserve to die this way. Please, whoever knows anything, I mean anonymously call whoever you have to, call and please say something if you know something."

Shortly after the shooting, Miami-Dade Superintendent Alberto Carvalho called for an end to the gun violence on Twitter.

One day after the shooting, detectives still don't have a motive and they're still looking for the shooters. Police say the gunmen could be juveniles.
