A 6-year-old is in stable condition after he was shot Saturday in Opa-Locka, police said.

According to the Miami Herald, the owner of the gun told the boy the weapon was a BB gun but when the boy picked it up, he dropped it because it was too heavy, causing it to accidentally discharge.

The boy was injured and taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital.

No charges have yet been filed. The incident remains under investigation.
