Dad Attacks Baseball Coach Who Cut Son

Miami Springs Senior High coach punched repeatedly after tough roster decision

A base-brawl usually involves opposing players, but a dispute over a roster spot ended with a local high baseball coach getting punched in the face by an angry dad whose son had just been cut from the team.

Robert Rodriguez has been charged with battery after he allegedly attacked Miami Springs Senior High school head baseball coach Jason Moris because Moris decided Rodriguez's son wouldn't make the playoff roster, the Miami Herald reported.

Rodriguez, who is a major fundraiser for the team, repeatedly punched 26-year-old Moris in the face when the coach showed up for practice on Friday, a police report stated.

“It’s an unfortunate situation that happened, but I can’t really comment on it any further at this time,” Moris told the River Cities Gazette. “Right now, I’ve got a group of kids that need to stay focused on this week’s district playoffs and that’s what we’re going to do.”

Miami Springs High is scheduled to play in the state playoffs today, but Moris had to trim his roster to 20 players by Friday, according to state rules.

Rodriguez's son, Ian, was one of the odd men out in the pitching rotation.

That angered his dad, who took matters into his own hands.

When police arrived, Moris, who is 5'3 and around 140 pounds, had bruises and lacerations on his face.

Rodriguez, who stands 6'3 and weighs close to 300 pounds, was unharmed, but told cops that he was the person who had been done wrong.
