The man who police said operated a house of prostitution from his Oakland Park home was sentenced to life in prison Monday, the Department of Justice announced.

James Mozie, 34, was previously found guilty in December of all charges, which included sex trafficking of minors and production of child pornography. He was arrested last May by an FBI task force after a tip to Broward Crime Stoppers, a federal criminal complaint said.

Mozie’s girlfriend and co-defendant Laschell “Shelly” Harris pled guilty to one count of sex trafficking a minor and was sentenced to 13 years in prison in November.

Authorities said Mozie advertised his home prostitution business, which he called the “Boom Boom Room,” through text messages. Seven different victims, who were minors when they worked with Mozie, testified against him that they worked or were recruited to work as prostitutes, according to the department.

The victims told the court that when they arrived at Mozie’s home, they filled out applications asking about their willingness to performs sex acts. The girls also said Mozie instructed them not to tell the customers that they were underage.

Several of the victims said they had to have sex with Mozie first, which served as “testing the merchandise,” the department said.

The investigation involved three different agencies.
