Boynton Beach Police Officer Accused of Sexual Assault: Report

A South Florida police officer has been charged with raping a 20-year-old woman at gunpoint while on duty.

Boynton Beach police report that Officer Stephen Maiorino was arrested Thursday and charged with armed sexual battery, armed kidnapping and unlawful compensation or reward for official behavior.

An arrest report says Maiorino was supposed to be giving the woman a ride to the police department to be picked up by family members on Oct. 15 when he took her to a secluded area and forced her to have sex with him.

The woman told investigators that Maiorino threatened to kill her and her family if she reported the assault.

When the woman led investigators back to the scene of the alleged assault, officers recovered a used condom containing Maiorino's DNA.

"Quite frankly, we are angry that any individual may squander the good will we worked so hard to build within our community," said BBPD Chief Jeffrey Katz. "While this is a dark day in the history of our department, I can tell you that the membership of our organization is keenly aware that the actions of one rogue officer have diminished our standing with the public we served."

Jail records didn't say if Maiorino had an attorney. Maiorino remains at the Palm Beach Detention Center.
