The brother of a man accused of murdering 15-year-old Emmanuel Lacayo after stealing his gold chain in 2008 testified against him Thursday in court.
Julius Simpson, 29, took the stand, telling the court he saw his brother Mitchell Simpson, 25, snatch the chain from Lacayo's neck before shooting him in the head.
"Right in the head?" prosecutors asked him.
"Yeah," he responded.
Having taken a plea deal, Julius Simpson told the court he now expects to spend about two decades behind bars instead of receiving a life sentence.
Officials believe the brothers fled in Julius Simpson's Buick following the shooting.
Prosecutors also showed the court a video from Mitchell Simpson's initial interrogation five years ago. He can be heard on tape calling a loved one and saying he is going away for a long time.
"I just want to tell you I love you," Mitchell Simpson can be heard saying.
Mitchell Simpson is being held on charges of first-degree murder and armed robbery. He faces life in prison.
