Already a year behind schedule, officials say Broward County's new downtown courthouse building still has no firm opening date.
The Sun-Sentinel reports the $262 million structure has been beset by several problems including unexpected utility work, troubles with pedestrian crossovers and judges' requests for changes in various rooms. Changes were made to all 75 courtrooms and some hearing rooms.
Broward County officials now say they hope the building will be ready by year's end. Even then the move-in process will take about 90 days.
The office of State Attorney Mike Satz has raised serious concerns about poor air quality in the existing older building that may be sickening employees. The county has hired an air quality testing firm and expects results in two or three weeks.
