“All in the Family” School Bus Head Let Go

Broward Schools chooses not to renew the contracts of two controversial transportation department heads

A Broward County school bus director who made it a habit of hiring her relatives won't have the chance anymore.

Lucille Greene, who was the deputy transportation director, will not have her contract renewed, Schools superintendent Jim Notter said Wednesday.

Her boss, Ruben Parker, is also out of a job after his contract wasn't renewed.

Greene is the target of a Florida Department of Law Enforcement into bus safety, nepotism, and sexual harassment at the Broward Schools bus lot.

The investigation, which began in 2009, revealed Greene was using the transportation department as her own personal family reunion site, officials said.

Greene got at least 20 of her family and friends jobs, investigators said. Some of them were fired for sleeping on the job or general incompetence, only to be rehired by the family matriarch, the investigators said.

Greene had worked with Broward Schools for 40 years and made around $81,000 a year.

The FDLE investigation is still ongoing, but no charges have been filed against Greene or Parker.
