Deadly Shooting in Northwest Miami-Dade Puts Nearby School on Lockdown During Search for Person Involved

An early afternoon shooting in Northwest Miami-Dade left one person dead and caused the lockdown of a nearby school Thursday.

Officers had responded to a call of a shooting just before 12:30 p.m. in the 12500 block of Northwest 18th Court where they found a man grazed by a bullet.

The officers had also learned of a yellow Chevy Camaro seen fleeing the area and later found the car in a grocery store parking lot in the area of Northwest 127th Street and Northwest 17th Avenue, where they found a man suffering from gunshot wounds.

The man, who was in his 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police haven't released his name but family members identified him as 24-year-old Barryson Louis.

The shooting caused the lockdown of a nearby school, Carrie Meek/Westview K-8 Center, located four blocks west of the shooting scene.

The shooting remains under investigation.
