Florida Wildlife Officials Release App to Track Lionfish

State wildlife officials have created a new app to track invasive lionfish

State wildlife officials have created a new app to track invasive lionfish.

The Report Florida Lionfish app was released by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission on Wednesday. It allows users to report sightings of lionfish, submit photos and share other information.

The app also includes educational information on lionfish and how to handle them safely. Data gathered through the app will be available to the public and shared with other agencies.

Lionfish have no predators and are voracious eaters. Officials say the numbers of lionfish in the Atlantic have spiked dramatically since they were first spotted in Florida waters in the 1980s.
