A former Swiss bank executive is due to be sentenced in Florida for conspiracy as part of a long-running U.S. investigation into tax evasion.
Hansruedi Schumacher could avoid prison in the scheme because of his cooperation.
He pleaded guilty in April to conspiring to defraud the U.S., a charge that can carry a six-year sentence. But prosecutors have asked a judge to order five years' probation and a fine when he's sentenced Monday.
Schumacher, who worked for UBS AG, admitted to helping wealthy U.S. citizens evade the Internal Revenue Service using secret Swiss accounts.
Several other bankers and dozens of customers have been prosecuted. UBS itself paid a $780 million fine to the U.S. in 2009 and agreed to disclose names of thousands of its American customers.
