Frat Founder Accused of Stabbing Ex-Pledge

One of the founders of Beta Chi Theta Fraternity was charged with stabbing a former pledge

One of the founders of the Beta Chi Theta Fraternity at Florida Atlantic University has been charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon after allegedly stabbing his former fraternity pledge brother over a missing bag of weed.

Jasneel Singh, 28, turned himself in Tuesday afternoon after the incident that happened in a Boca Raton bar parking lot earlier that morning. He is currently being held at the Palm Beach County jail on a $10,000 bond.

It was unclear if he had an attorney.

The national president of Beta Chi Theta released a statement on the stabbing incident Wednesday.

"Beta Chi Theta Fraternity does not condone any type of violence," Vivek Surti said in a statement. "The values and standards of our organization are to promote gentlemanly conduct and brotherhood."

According to a police report, Singh stabbed 20-year-old Jason Jaigobin after a group of frat brothers spent the night hanging out at the Hookah Hut.

Singh, Jaigobin, their friend, Jesse Mustapha, went to smoke weed and listen to music in Singh's Mercedes after the bar closed.

Then around 2 a.m. Jaigobin and Mustapha decided to call it a night and went to Mustapha’s car, but they noticed Singh following them, the police report read.

Singh went to the driver’s side and shook Mustapha’s hand wishing him a good night.

Expecting the same gesture, Jaigobin put his hand out to bid farewell to Singh, but instead of a hand, the former pledge got a Swiss Army knife to the gut, the police report stated.

Jaigobin told police he thought that Singh was just playing around until he noticed a pool of blood on his white undershirt.

He was rushed to Boca Raton Regional Hospital where he was treated for the 2-inch wound.

Shortly after the incident, Mustapha received a text message from Singh stating, “The beef is on... U better pick ur side…or risk getting hit up,” the police report stated.

Mustapha told authorities that "getting hit up" meant being attacked.

The only incident Mustapha could remember between Jaigobin and Singh occurred last year at a party following the fraternity’s formal in Boynton Beach.

According to a recorded interview conducted by police, Mustapha said that Singh had a bag of marijuana that went missing, and accused Jaigobin of stealing it. He also explained that Jaigobin originally pledged the fraternity and dropped out, and that Singh had lost respect for him.
