People caught with a small amount of pot in marijuana in Hallandale Beach could be looking at a fine instead of criminal charges.
The city commission approved a new law Wednesday night that eases the penalty for marijuana possession for up to 20 grams.
The law will give officers an option of issuing a $100 fine instead of an arrest.
Miami Beach and Miami-Dade County have passed similar laws in the past couple months. Officials say the laws help utilize police resources for more important crimes and stop the waste of prosecution costs.
