Hialeah Carjacking Fugitive Caught: FBI

Pedro Luis Valdes was taken into custody Thursday night

The fugitive who stole a car and drove off with a 3-year-old boy inside it in Hialeah has been taken into custody, the FBI said.

FBI spokesman Michael Leverock confirmed Thursday night that Pedro Luis Valdes was taken into custody around 9:45 p.m. at the El Nido Motel at 3141 Southwest 8th Street in Miami.

The arrest was made without incident, Leverock said.

Valdes, 48, was wanted for Wednesday’s carjacking as well as two recent bank robberies, according to authorities.

When the father of Daniel Rivero, 3, left his Mitsubishi Montero to buy his son ice cream in Hialeah Wednesday afternoon, Valdes jumped in the car and drove off with it, authorities said.

The child was later found safe and sound when he was dropped off at a TD Bank, according to police.

Valdes is in federal custody and is expected to face federal charges, Leverock said. His first court appearance is expected Friday.

The FBI, U.S. Secret Service, Miami-Dade Police, Hialeah Police, Miami Police and South Florida Violent Crime Fugitive Task Force is still investigating.
