3-Year-Old Child in Stolen Car Recovered

$5,000 reward offered for Pedro Luis Valdes, 48, FBI says

The FBI says it's searching for Pedro Luis Valdes, 48, who’s wanted for Wednesday’s Hialeah carjacking involving a 3-year-old boy as well as two recent bank robberies.

Valdes, who was allegedly involved in robberies of a Regions Bank in Miami last Friday and a Bank of America also on West Flagler Street on Wednesday, should be considered armed and dangerous, the FBI said.

A $5,000 reward is being offered for information leading to his arrest.

Earlier police recovered Daniel Rivero, 3, who was inside a car stolen in Hialeah Wednesday afternoon.

He was found safe and sound when he was dropped off in front of TD Bank at NW 57th Avenue and NW 7th Street, police said.

The child's father had exited his Mitsubishi Montero to buy the boy an ice cream when someone jumped into the car and stole it at 5700 NW 37th Avenue, authorities said.

"He tried to fight with the guy and the ice cream guy tried to fight too with the guy, but he left with the car," said the child's uncle, Vicente Rivero.

For much of the afternoon, Hialeah Police, backed by Miami-Dade and Miami officers, conducted a massive search for Daniel.

"What a scary case. Child's behaving well, father opens the door, steps out of the vehicle to buy an ice cream cone, when some man jumps into his car and drives off with his child," Hialeah Police Lt. Eddie Rodriguez said.

He said the lesson is that a child should never be left alone in a vehicle.

The FBI said the car has a Florida license plate "T306JD" and has tinted windows and a handicap decal.

Valdes is also associated with a black 2001 Ford four-door Escort with the Florida license plate "869JDP," according to the FBI.

Authorities urge anyone with information to call the FBI at 305-944-9101 or Crime Stoppers.
