Hundreds Audition for Estefan Broadway Musical

A new Broadway musical is based on the life and music of the Estefan's and hundreds of local artists think they've got what it takes to take the stage next November.

A mix of nervousness and excitement filled the lobby of the Adrienne Arsht Center as hundreds of performers waited their turn to audition for the "On Your Feet" Broadway musical.

SOT, Liz Viloria, auditioning- "I know I have the drive and the talent and I'm a fast learner, so I hope they can see all that," said auditioning hopeful Liz Viloria.

SOT, Melina Almodovar, auditioning- "I sing salsa music," said Melina Almodovar, "and I love when Gloria sings the salsa, so I hope to be able to be in it and be a part of it."

The search for the perfect cast kicked off online and in New York City, but the second and final stop for open call auditions was right here in Miami, home of the power couple who've been ambassadors for the Magic City around the globe.

SOT, Emilio Estefan- "I think Miami is a great place because you know most of the people are bilingual," said Emilio Estefan. "They know how to sing in Spanish, English, they can be able to understand the music and they know the history."

While many practiced before facing the judges, the participants got quite the surprise when Gloria and Emilio walked in and even posed for selfies. Although this is an international casting search, South Florida performers may have some home-court advantage.

"I'm hoping that we find me here," said Gloria Estefan. "That would just be icing on the cake I think."

"On your feet" is the story of the Estefan's from about childhood to adulthood with a focus on their pursuit of the American dream. The musical is set to Gloria's chart-topping hits as well as new songs penned by the couple.

SOT, Gloria- "The theme is that in life you have to keep getting on your feet," Estefan said. "You know it might knock you down once in a while, you go through a lot of things, but the magic of it is just to keep plugging away and doing what you do."

Opening night for "On your feet" is November 5th at the Marquis Theatre in New York.
