Liberty City Dunkin' Donuts Gives Back to Community

Liberty City is now home to a newly opened Dunkin’ Donuts, and to celebrate the grand opening the restaurant intends to pay it forward this weekend.

On Aug. 8 and 9, the restaurant will celebrate its opening in the community by donating $1 from every cup of coffee sold to Curley’s House of Style, Inc., a food bank that supports Liberty City.

Additionally, the first 100 guests on Saturday and Sunday will receive a free mug good for 99-cent refills.

"Surfside Coffee Company deeply values its relationships with our neighbors in the community and I feel that it’s important to give back as a show of support and to thank them for allowing us to serve," said Chris Mellgren of Surfside Coffee Company. "We try to identify organizations in every neighborhood we open a restaurant that we can partner with to do good while doing well."

Located on 1190 Northwest 62nd Street, local Dunkin’ Donuts franchisee Chris Mellgren says that Liberty City is an under-served market without many favorable options for breakfast or a good cup of coffee.

Mellgren told NBC 6 that opening the new Dunkin’ Donuts location makes perfect sense from a business standpoint because Liberty City is so under-served by quality brands. He expects this franchise to outperform many restaurants.

“Beyond the business benefits, we are proud to be able to create opportunities for employment and training in all of the communities that we serve, including this one," said Mellgren. "We hope that our success here will prompt other entrepreneurs to open businesses in the community to create more opportunities for everyone, so we can all succeed together."

Mellgren says the new Dunkin’ Donuts location will add 30 full-time and part-time job opportunities to the local community.
