Several athletes with South Florida ties advance in the Olympics on Tuesday

Several Olympians with South Florida ties advanced to the next level in their events on Monday.

Recent University of Miami graduate, T'erea Brown made it into the top eight in the women's 400 meter hurdles on Monday. She ran a personal best of 54.21.

Gold-medalist Sanya Richards-Ross, from St. Thomas high school in Fort Lauderdale, won her qualifying heat in the women's 200M and moved on to Tuesday's semifinals. That race is at 3:25 p.m.

Fort Lauderdale native Richards-Ross clinched the gold medal Sunday in the 400 meter race. In the same event, Murielle Ahoure, a UM graduate who runs for the Ivory Coast, also won her qualifying heat and will advance as well.

Meanwhile, LeBron James of the Miami Heat will lead the US Men’s Basketball Team in the qualifying round against Argentina. The Game begins at 5:15 p.m. Watch it live here.

The Dream team escaped with a 99-94 win over Lithuania Saturday.

Former University of Florida Gator Kerron Clement will also compete in the men’s 400 meter finals Monday. The race is expected to begin at 4:30 p.m.

Medal Count

Former Gator Abby Wambach is also set to play alongside Team USA against Canada. The soccer semifinal begins at 2:45 p.m.
