Man Arrested in Murder of Woman Found in Burning Miramar Home

A man has been arrested in the January death of a woman who was found inside a burning Miramar home, police said.

Miguel Castano-Herrera, 56, is charged with premeditated murder and first-degree arson, Miramar Police said Tuesday. He was being held without bond and it was unknown if he has an attorney.

The fire was reported back on Jan. 16 at a home in the 6600 block of Southwest 20th Street. The woman, identified by friends as 46-year-old Sivieta Diaz, was discovered unresponsive and with injuries that appeared to be a result of blunt force trauma, police said.

She was taken to a nearby hospital where she died three days later.

Police said Castano-Herrera was known to the victim and had been evading police. Officials didn't say what led detectives to Castano-Herrera.
