A man was hospitalized after he was shot at a gas station in Deerfield Beach early Wednesday, authorities said.
The shooting happened just before 4:30 a.m. at the Texaco station at 4517 N. Dixie Highway, Broward Sheriff's Office officials said.
The man was taken to Broward Health North where he's expected to survive. His identity wasn't released.
BSO officials said the victim tried to intervene when John White was allegedly beating his girlfriend at the gas station when he was shot multiple times.
"That witness tried to grab the girl away as the man was hitting her," said Dani Moschella of BSO. "They get into a fight. The suspect, John White, pulls out a gun and shoots the victim multiple times."
The couple is well known to the locals living in a trailer park near the gas station. Neighbors said after the shoting, the couple was getting along fine.
White, a convicted felon, was charged with attempted murder for the attack.
