Miami-Dade Police Investigate Infant's Death

4-month-old dies after he's rushed to hospital by parents

Miami-Dade Police are investigating the death of a 4-month-old boy who died after he was rushed to the hospital by his parents.

Police say 28-year-old Jhanine Jordan and 24-year-old Jerry Correa rushed the boy to Homestead Hospital Saturday after he was found unresponsive in his crib.

But it was too late, and the boy was pronounced dead.

When Miami-Dade Police's Homicide Bureau went to the family's home, they made a disturbing discovery.

"They did notice that the home was in deplorable conditions and the Department of Children and Families were notified, they did respond so they can initiate an investigation because there is another child living in that home that is unharmed," Det. Alvaro Zabaleta, with the Miami-Dade Police Department, said Sunday. "Detectives at this point are gathering all physical evidence and statements and interviews from individuals who were there including the parents."

A DCF spokesperson said the family has a history with the department and that the other child, a 3-year-old, is in DCF's care.

Meanwhile, Jordan and Correa have not been charged and it's still unclear what led to the child's death.

"It's hard to say at this point, we'll let the medical professionals be able to tell us upon the autopsy," Zabaleta said.
