Mother, Two Children Struck in Loud Crash on SW 268th St.

Accident happened near SW 135th Avenue

A mother and her two sons were loudly struck by a Crown Victoria as they crossed SW 268th Street Tuesday night, witnesses and Miami-Dade Police said.

One of the boys was killed, and the mother and the other son are in the hospital, witnesses and police said.

Police said the woman and her children, ages 7 and 8, left Diaz Supermarket on SW 268th Street in southwest Miami-Dade. They were crossing the street when the car hit them with a loud impact, scattering them all over the road, witnesses told NBC Miami.

"It sounded like a 18-wheeler hitting another car, but ... it was a car hitting kids," witness Curtis Nelson said.

The family had just left the neighborhood grocery store, one boy holding a bag of chips in his hand, when the Crown Victoria hit them near the intersection of 268th Street, Moody Drive, and SW 137th Avenue.

Nelson said he saw the accident happen and ran to help, describing how the family lay in the road.

"We looked 50 feet down, there was another little kid, he was like spaghetti. He was already dead in the road, and we couldn't do nothing for him," Wilson said.

The driver, whose mother said he is 26, stayed on the scene and was interviewed by police.

"He says 'Mom, three kids just ran in front of my car, and I was just coming from getting tools for tattoo machines," she said.

Bystanders said the street is darkly lit and dangerous and that accidents happen there often.
