Cops Blow Hole In Wall Over Suspicious Bag

Abandoned briefcase in police lobby leads to repair

It's time for a little home repair at the Miami Police Department after the Bomb Squad blew a basketball-sized hole in their own wall.

The incident happened around 2 a.m. Friday when an officer spotted an abandoned black briefcase in the front lobby of the City of Miami Police substation at Flagler St. and Southwest 22nd Avenue.

Officers evacuated as a precaution, and called the Bomb Squad.

Police shut down the area for about an hour as the Bomb Squad robot rolled into the lobby, carrying a container of its own explosives designed to shoot high powered water at suspicious packages.

The force of the water split apart the bag, spilling papers and debris and gashing the wall.

Officers found no bombs in the bag, just a mess to clean up, plus some wall repairs.
