No Bond for Man Charged in Corrections Officer Shooting

A man accused of shooting an off-duty correctional officer outside his Miami-Dade home will remain behind bars ahead of his trial, a judge ruled Tuesday.

Patrick Sullivan, 22, is accused of shooting Juan Guellmes during the August 2014 robbery on Southwest 146th Street.

Prosecutors say Guellmes was working on his car on a warm summer evening two years ago when he was approached by Sullivan, who demanded his chain.

Sullivan claims he wasn't the one who robbed and shot the victim four times. His defense attorney says prosecutors don't have any physical evidence to prove Sullivan was the shooter.

"No shell casing were ever found even though Mr. Guellmes indicated that the firearm in question was a semi automatic," defense attorney Tony Moss said.

Prosecutors said that's because Sullivan came back to the crime scene and picked up the shell casings from the gun he had just fired. Sullivan's crime history dates back to his teens.

Sullivan has been in jail with no bond since his arrest and now he'll stay there until the trial starts. The criminal trial is set to start on July 25th.
