A Nevada parole board says O.J. Simpson has requested to live in Florida after he is released from prison.
Simpson was granted his release from the Nevada prison where he's spent more than eight years for armed robbery and assault with a weapon during a parole hearing Thursday.
"I could easily stay in Nevada but I don't think you guys want me here," Simpson said while laughing during the hearing.
The chairwoman of the parole commissioner said, "No comment sir." Parole commissioners say he applied to live with family in Florida.
Simpson is set to be released in October.
"We are aware of his potential relocation to Florida. Pursuant to the Interstate Commission on Adult Offender Supervision, if Nevada’s request meets all criteria, Florida must accept the transfer," the Florida Department of Corrections said in a statement. "As is the case with any offender who transfers under this routine procedure, he will be assigned a Florida probation officer and will be supervised in accordance with the conditions of his parole."
Simpson was imprisoned in 2008 for armed robbery and assault with a weapon after trying to take back sports memorabilia in a budget hotel room in Las Vegas.

The former NFL star moved to the Miami area after he was acquitted in 1995 of killing his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ron Goldman.
Simpson bought a home in Kendall in 2000 and lived there until his conviction in Nevada. The home was sold in 2013 after it went into foreclosure, and was recently listed for $1.3 million.
