One of Two Escapee Cell Mates Captured; Accused Killer Still At Large

Pair escapee Indian River County Jail early Monday, but one was spotted walking down Federal Highway and taken into custody

A convicted murderer who escaped the Indian River County Jail early Monday is back in custody, but another alleged killer remains at large.

Leviticus Taylor, 25, was re-captured Monday evening in Jensen Beach, the Martin County Sheriff's Office said.

Two of its detectives, one a sworn U.S. Marshal, were on foot in the 1900 block of Federal Highway when they saw Taylor walking on the sidewalk just after 7 p.m.

He was taken into custody without incident, the MCSO said, but his fellow maximum security prisoner and cellmate Rondell Reed, 51, is still at large.

Law enforcement officials said they do not know if Reed is armed, but that he should be considered armed and dangerous. They also say he previously escaped a jail 20 years ago in North Carolina.

Police believe the pair were picked up outside the Vero Beach jail sometime after they were last seen about 4:30 a.m.

Authorities suspect the men got into a crawl space and into an open yard at the jail, at some point shedding their prison uniforms before making it over a 12-foot high fence topped with razor wire, say authorities

Two women have been arrested as accomplices, reports the Vero Beach Press-Journal.

Reed was awaiting trial on a first degree murder charge after allegedly shooting a Sebastian auto business owner behind his shop.

Taylor was convicted of murder in September. He was scheduled for sentencing November 10.

Officials caution that Reed is now clean-shaven and sporting gray hair.

Anyone with information about his whereabouts is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-273-TIPS.
