A Lantana man was arrested after he sold over 40 gallons of moonshine to undercover agents over a few months, authorities said.
The South Florida Sun Sentinel reported that Daniel Pawa, 23, who was arrested Thursday, responded to a Nov. 13 Craigslist ad that was posted by a Florida Division of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco agent.
"Looking for some strong moonshine," the ad said. "If you got some of the strong stuff, shoot me a text."
A middleman for Pawa contacted the agent and referred him to Pawa, who subsequently sold over 40 gallons of moonshine – highly potent alcohol that is usually homemade – to undercover state beverage agents, according to an arrest report.
Pawa faces one count of possession of an illegal liquor, one count of conspiracy to violate beverage laws, four counts of possession of illegal alcohol containers and four counts of concealing beverages with the intent to defraud the state of liquor tax, according to online Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office records.
Agents also seized a .45-caliber firearm from him, the Sun Sentinel reported, so he faces one count of possession of a firearm, the sheriff’s office records said.
Pawa posted bond and was released from jail Friday afternoon, the records said. It was not immediately known whether he has an attorney.
