Unlicensed Doc's Laser Hair Removal a Real Burner

Fake physician arrested after procedure leaves woman with 3rd degree burns

Laser hair removal is painful, no doubt, but it generally doesn't leave you with that "I just walked through a wall of fire" feeling.

So when a woman received first, second and third degree burns during a procedure at a West Miami-Dade practice, she figured something was wrong.

Monica Jimenez, 22, thought she would undergo the uncomfortable but durable procedure to get her underarms hair-free and silky smooth. But give an unlicensed health care provider a laser and agonizing pain may follow.

The unlicensed professional, Larry DeJesus, 48, was arrested and charged for the injuries he inflicted on Jimenez, according to the Miami Herald.

Jimenez arrived at the business in the 3600 block of SW 107th Avenue last August for her scheduled procedure. After suffering what she perceived as abnormal pain, Jimenez requested DeJesus to stop, but the ā€œprofessionalā€ persuaded her to continue.

After developing a blister, Jimenez could no longer stand the pain.

DeJesus prescribed her a solution to ease the pain and told her to return in a few days. Instead, the blistered patient went to the emergency room.

Jimenez filed a complaint with the Florida Department of Health and after the department discovered DeJesus had no credentials, the Miami-Dade Police Medical Crimes Unit took over.

In addition to the criminal charges he faces, DeJesus also faces $1 million lawsuit from Jimenez, who seeks damages from the botched procedure.
