Pet Adoption Van Stolen in Hollywood

The owners of a van used to help rescue dogs is asking for the public’s help to find the person who got into the van Monday night and drove away with it.

“Anybody feels violated when someone gets into your territory, but I take it personally when it’s with my dogs,” said Ana Bueno of PAWS 2 Care Coalition.

The robber was captured on surveillance cameras and showed him appearing to wear a blanket as he paced around the 1997 blue Chevrolet Astro van. Within three minutes, the robber was in the van and drove away.

“That’s when I realized we were in trouble because the van, we need it,” Bueno said. “But what is inside is even more vital to the organization.”

Bueno estimated she lost $800 worth of equipment on top of the cost of the van. Ana said all the supplies she needs for adoption events, like tables, leashes, a donation box, etc, were all in the back of the van.

The theft may force her to cancel a planned event for Saturday at PetSmart in Pembroke Pines.

“I don’t know if we can make it because we don’t have the tables, donation jar,” Bueno said. “We’re trying to see how to transport them.”

If you have any information about the van theft, call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS (8477).
