‘Lanky' Suspect Who Rammed Tamarac Store Worker During Chain Theft Arrested

The robber described as "lanky" who allegedly stole a 24-inch gold necklace from a Tamarac jewelry store and rammed into a worker has been arrested.

Louis Smith, 24, faces a charge for strong-arm robbery, the Broward County Sheriff's Office said. He was arrested Wednesday.

The BSO said the theft by the "a lanky man" occurred on Oct. 14 at about 1:45 p.m. at Nina's Jewelry and Watch Supercenter on 7112 N. University Drive.

"He asked the staff to look at several gold chains before he finally chose a 24-inch, 10-karat gold chain with an anchor design to try on," the BSO said in a statement. "While admiring himself in a mirror, he abruptly turned and ran out of the store."

As the suspect was fleeing from nearly the other side of the store, an employee attempted to get in the robber's way, but he was violently bumped aside and he fell to the floor.

The worker quickly got up and chased the robber, who fled by jumping over a fence near the rear of the plaza.

In the video of the theft, the suspect is seen wearing dark pants, a gray long-sleeve sweatshirt, a gray backpack and a bright blue hair covering.
