Sex Abuse Lawsuit Filed Against Broward School Board

The lawsuit alleges that Kristen Sullivan, a former Lauderhill Middle School Teacher, sexually abused his client when he was 13.

On Thursday attorney Jeff Herman along with his teenage client and his mother, announced the filing of a sexual abuse lawsuit against the School Board of Broward County.

The lawsuit alleges that Kristen Sullivan, a former Lauderhill Middle School Teacher, sexually abused his client when he was 13.

The victim, now 17 said his life was ruined.

"It's hard for me to trust people in a relationship with a female cause I don't trust people, " said the victim.

According to the complaint, Kristen Sullivan, started having sex with the 13-year-old victim in the Spring of 2009. The inappropriate behavior included kissing, oral sex and sexual intercourse both on and off school property for two years.

The lawsuit also states that this was the first time the victim ever had sexual intercourse with anyone.

"Teachers should not be having sex with their students," said Herman.

According to the lawsuit filed in Federal Court Wednesday, The Broward County School Board had actual notice of Sullivan's continuing sexual harassment of the victim, and failed to engage in corrective measures.

"When there are allegations rumors of inappropriate behavior the schools must take action, " said Herman.

A spokesperson for the Broward County School Board said they do not comment on pending litigation.

Meantime, after pleading no contest to charges of aggravated battery and aggravated child abuse in 2011, Sullivan is serving a 3-year prison term.
