Van Crash Kills Family After Marlins Game: Officials

Miami Fire Rescue said four people were killed Saturday night when a driver lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a building

Four people are dead after a van rammed into a building outside Marlins Ballpark Saturday night, officials said.

The driver of a red mini-van lost control and collided into a building on NW 17th and NW 7th Street, striking and killing several pedestrians, Miami Fire Rescue said. A grandmother, two teens and the driver were killed, officials said.

According to Miami Police, the car, driven by Raul Herberto Ortega Arias, struck four of six pedestrians that were walking to their parked car after leaving the Marlins game.

Arias, 67, and the four pedestrians were rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital. Three pedestrians, who have not been identified and Arias died shortly after. Miami Fire Rescue spokesman Lt. Ignatius Carroll said the victims were a 50-year-old woman, a 13-year-old girl and a 14-year-old boy.

The other victim remains in extremely critical condition.

It appears the driver may have had a heart attack or some type of medical condition when he lost control of the car, witnesses said.

Authorities continue investigating the incident.
