A 90-year-old woman had to shell out $200 to get her stolen medical alert bracelet back after it turned up at a central Florida coin shop.
Nell McBride told the Daytona Beach News-Journal she's "out the money now" but that she had to get her bracelet back.
Police say a 26-year-old housekeeper who worked at Ormond in the Pines retirement home took the bracelet.
Ormond Beach police spokesman Keith Walker says the law is made to protect pawn shops when dealing in stolen property. Once a police report is filed and charges are pending, the victim is able to buy back the item for the cost the broker paid.
McBride says she won't be asking for restitution from the housekeeper because she doesn't think the woman can afford it.
