An early morning call of a bomb threat caused the evacuation of one Broward County high school. Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies say the call was received at Deerfield Beach High School off SW 15th Street shortly before 8 a.m. The school was placed on lockdown and students were evacuated to the school’s football stadium. Bomb squad officials responded and searched the school, giving it the all clear and allowing everyone to return around 9.30 a.m.
Investigators say one person is dead and five others - including two children - are being treated following a shooting in central Florida that left one person dead.
A bad two vehicle crash has shut down part of U.S. 1 in Coral Gables early Monday morning. Coral Gables Police say two people needed to be extricated from the cars following the crash around 6:30 a.m. They were taken to an area hospital with their conditions unknown. Crews shut down the major roadway in both directions between Ponce de Leon and Douglas Road while they continue to clear the scene and investigate. The northbound lanes reopened shortly before 7:30 a.m. while the soutbound lanes remain closed.
Downtown Miami is working to get back to normal after hundreds of thousands of people made their way to the area this weekend for the annual Ultra Music Festival. Officials estimated that about 55,000 people made their way down to Bayfront Park for the electronic music extravaganza – featuring some of the top acts from around the world. Police so far have not released information on the number of arrests made, only reporting one incident from Friday when a person punched a firefighter. A Monday press conference is scheduled to recap the event.
The Senate Intelligence Committee plans to question Jared Kushner, a key adviser to President Donald Trump and his son-in-law, two sources confirmed to NBC News Monday. Kushner will be interviewed as part of an ongoing Senate inquiry into possible ties between associates of Trump and Russian operatives. Trump spokeswoman Hope Hicks told NBC that Kushner, who is married to Trump's eldest daughter, Ivanka, volunteered to talk to the Senate committee. "He doesn't have anything to hide," she said. During the transition, Kushner acted as a liaison between foreign governments and Trump officials. It is not unusual for presidential transitions to meet with foreign officials.
Members of a family in town for a cruise are instead recovering in a Fort Lauderdale hospital after being hit by a car Sunday night.
