Police say a former University of South Florida football player has died in a stabbing outside a Ybor City nightclub in Tampa.
Elkino Watson, 23, died Sunday morning. The Miami native last played for USF in 2014. Watson was a defensive lineman who played in 44 games during his career at USF.
As a senior in 2014, he recorded 36 tackles, including 7.5 for loss, with two sacks and a forced fumble.
Former teammates and coaches remembered Watson on Sunday as a fun-loving man who loved to dance and worked hard on the football field.
"RIP Elkino Watson," tweeted Miami Booker T. Washington coach Tim Harris Jr., a Tornadoes assistant during Watson's all-state career. "He was great young man from a great family. Sad to hear you were taken away from us all so soon."
"Seems like yesterday we first got to USF man," tweeted former Bulls OL Darrell Williams. "RIP Kino."
Police say the stabbing happened after a fight broke out near the nightclub parking lot.

Desmond Horne, also a Miami resident, was also stabbed during the incident. He was transported to the hospital in stable condition.
Police are looking for the suspect. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers with anonymous tips and they will be eligible for a $3,000 reward.
