Heat Fade in Loss to Thunder

Kevin Durant leads Oklahoma City over Miami

The Miami Heat's inability to close out games reappeared on Wednesday night, as the Heat fell to the Oklahoma City Thunder 96-85. After coming within a three-point deficit early in the fourth quarter, Miami succumbed to turnovers and poor defense.

Though they combined for 61 points, Miami's Big Three shot 36% from the field. The trio went cold in the second half, shooting 4-of-24 with 23 points. While they struggled, Oklahoma City's Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook combined for 47 points.

After avenging their worst loss of the season on Monday night, the Heat came out with some early energy. Dwyane Wade pleased the home crowd with an impromptu cabbage patch after a dazzling dunk over Kendrick Perkins (below). He even elicited some "M-V-P" chants in the second quarter. Miami closed the half with a 14-5 run to pull within a point of Oklahoma City.

But in the second half Miami could not grab the lead, and Oklahoma matched every Miami run with a run of their own. Though it's tempting to call this loss a hangover from Monday's demolition of the Spurs, the Heat did not exactly embarrass themselves. Oklahoma City only shot 40% from the field, but they also grabbed 17 offensive rebounds, giving themselves plenty of second chances.

Miami simply did not succeed on the offensive end. They could only shoot 39% themselves, including a dreadful 3-of-17 from three-point range, many of which came on open looks. It was a forgettable evening, and the Heat have roughly 44 hours to get it out of their system before taking on the Hawks in Atlanta.
