Panthers Take Third Straight Road Game

The Panthers continued to dominant their current road trip with their fourth win in five tries

The Florida Panthers won a third straight game on Sunday with their 4-2 victory over the Edmonton Oilers at Rexall Place.

All three wins on the current streak have come on the road where the Panthers have taken four of five games on the trip. The string of well-played games has improved Florida's record on the year to 20-11-9. Despite the winning streak, the Panthers have remained in ninth place in the Eastern Conference.

The first goal of the day for the Panthers came when Jimmy Hayes put one in the net 4:01 into the first period. Nick Bjugstad and Jussi Jokinen assisted on the score that had Florida up 1-0 early. The goal was the 13th of the season for Hayes.

With the game tied up in the second period, Brian Campbell put Florida back up by one with his third goal of the year  Aaron Ekblad and Jokinen were credited with assists on the go-ahead goal.

At 5:08 into the third period, the Panthers padded their lead when Tomas Kopecky put home his second goal of the season. Derek MacKenzie and Scottie Upshall helped give Florida its 3-1 lead at the time.

When the Oilers cut the lead to only one, Sean Bergenheim made sure to get that score back. The last goal of the day was Bergenheim's seventh of the year and was assisted on by Tomas Fleischmann.

After taking a game off, Roberto Luongo returned to action and stopped 31 of the 33 attempts fired at him.

Florida will wrap up the trip on Tuesday when it travels to Winnipeg for a game against the Jets at 8:00 p.m.
