Sharon Lawson is an award-winning reporter/anchor for NBC Miami in Miami-Ft. Lauderdale.

Sharon joined NBC Miami in 2003 as a general assignment reporter. Since then, she has covered some of the region's biggest events and interviewed some of its most interesting people.

A Journalist's journalist, Sharon's 15-year career started in Sarasota Florida's WWSB-TV, where she worked as a photographer, editor and reporter. In 1995 she debuted as an anchor at WMDT in Salisbury Maryland. From 1997 to 2000 she served as the weekend anchor at WHIO in Dayton, Ohio before taking over anchoring duties at WFTC in Minneapolis, Minn. Since returning to Florida, she's reported, produced special projects and anchored "Today in South Florida: Weekend Edition."
In 2005, her work was featured in the Emmy winning "Being Black in America." Her 2008 election year television feature "Sisters: Diversity in Politics" won a 2009 NABJ Salute to Excellence Award.
Though a proud native of Canada, Sharon's roots are firmly in the Caribbean. She's an active member of the local Caribbean community, using her platform not only for news, but to celebrate the art, music, history, and - of course - food of the region.

Sharon's stories often hit home - literally. In August 2005, Sharon's personal and professional lives collided when Hurricane Charlie devastated the city of Port Charlotte, FL, a part of the state her family's called home since she left her native Canada. Her powerful, emotional reporting reminded the entire state of the personal impact of such events. In 2007 she found herself back in her parents' birthplace as the only American broadcast journalist in Kingston covering the historic Jamaican elections. Her insight, knowledge and personal heritage made the coverage can't miss TV in the Caribbean community.

Though she can count interviews with His Holiness, the 14th Dalai Lama, and heavyweight champion Mohammed Ali as career highlights, her passion lies with helping young people. She strives to make a positive difference by fostering nurturing environments for them and encouraging them to live their dreams. Sharon is an active mentor and has volunteered in youth empowering organizations including the Boys and Girls Clubs of America.

A graduate of the University of Central Florida, Sharon is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
