The Lasso of Truth About New Wonder Woman Adrianne Palicki

Now that Adrianne Palicki is TV’s newest Wonder Woman, it’s time to pull out the golden lasso to get some truth about the future Amazon Princess.

1) Nicely bucking the recent trend of iconic American superheroes (OK, Wonder Woman's Amazonian, but she was created by an American and sports the stars and stripes) being played by Brits from across the Pond (‘Cheerio, Christian Bale, Henry Cavill and Andrew Garfield), Palicki’s from Toledo, Ohio, a nice, All-American town suitable for the 5’11” wearer of Diana’s star-spangled boyshorts.

2) She’s a legit comic book lover, and not of the "I'm doing press for my new superhero movie" lip-service kind of way. When your PopcornBiz writer visited Palicki on the set of the horror film “Legion” in 2008, we found her curled up with a copy of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ classic Watchmen at her side (Her other favorites include Y: The Last Man, Wanted, and Invincible). “I’ve always been involved in [comics],” she told us then, having hunted down the only comics shop she could find in Albuquerque, New Mexico, during the shoot. “My brother is a comic book writer, so I got into it at a young age.” Indeed, her sibling Eric Palicki writes "The Mighty Quinn," “which is my favorite,” she told us. “He does‘The Undertaker’s Daughter’ and ‘Graceland’ – he does his own online comics.” Her bro’s current works include “Teeth” and “Barefoot."

3) She’s let her geek flag fly in a few cred-building roles before and after her “Friday Night Lights,” including playing the original glimpse of Kara Zor-El (aka Supergirl) on “Smallville" (before the role was taken over by Laura Vandervoort) voicing Star Wars' Padme Amidala, Sailor Moon and chopsocky star Cynthia Rothrock for “Robot Chicken,” reviving Judy Robinson for a “Lost In Space” TV movie and portraying the Siren in the CW’s scuttled “Aquaman" pilot.

4) Palicki bears the mark of a genuine superheroine – literally. She’s got a Supergirl tattoo on her hip. "When I was a kid I was this little blonde fuzzy-headed thing," she told the Wall Street Journal in 2008. "I looked up to her."
