Republicans Bridging the Rick Scott Divide

Governor's primary "water under ther bridge" says establishment republican

Last week, establishment Republicans worked against Scott.

This week is different. Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour, head of the Republican Governors Association, is now backing Scott. He endorsed Scott’s opponent, Bill Mccollum in the Republican primary election.

"Everyone knows we want business-people moving into this state, expanding businesses in this state and opening their businesses in this state,” Scott told the heavily Hispanic crowd inside the Jorge Mas Canosa Youth Center.

During the run up to that vote, Barbour asked Scott to stop running an attack commercial linking then-candidate Mccollum to indicted former state party chairman Jim Greer. Barbour insisted the ad was not true. Scott refused to pull it. Barbour is now answering questions about his reversal.

“I have no doubt his (Scott’s) campaign believed what they said was true, the Republican Governors Association disagreed, that's water under the bridge,” said Barbour.

State Democratic leaders aren't buying the ‘coming together' of Florida Republicans.

“They are out there for themselves and that has been proven by their lavish spending,” said Karen Thurman, Chair of the Florida Democratic Party. “They can’t come together at the end of an election and feel good about themselves, It’s a sad day for them.”
