Police Shoot Man Chewing on Victim's Face: Report

One person was killed in a police-involved shooting on North Bayshore Drive and NE 13th Street, officials said

A naked man was allegedly chewing on the face of another man when he was shot and killed by police on a pedestrian bridge off MacArthur Causeway Saturday afternoon , a report said.

According to the Miami Herald, the naked man was eating the face of another man when police arrived. Officers ordered the man to back away, but he continued to eat the victim's face leading police to shoot him, the newspaper said.

Despite being shot, the man continued to bite the victim's face, prompting police to continue to fire, the Herald said.

Witnesses told the newspaper they heard about half a dozen shots.

The second victim was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital, according to officials. His condition is not known.

Officials with Miami Fire Rescue told NBC 6 the victim was bleeding from his face but did not confirm what caused the injuries.

Investigators told the Herald they believe the second victim was homeless when the naked man approached him and began biting his face.

Miami Police have not confirmed the details reported by the Herald and issued the following statement Sunday afternoon.

"As with all active investigations, there are many details that cannot be discussed until we have gathered all the facts. Detectives are still trying to gather details and urging the many passersby that might have seen something to contact them. Note, that the identities of the two males are still not known."

Police said Saturday they were forced to shoot after two men began fighting on North Bayshore Drive and NE 13th Street shortly after 2 p.m.

The shooting shut down access from MacArthur Causeway to Biscayne Boulevard, snarling traffic for hours.

No further information was released and neither of the men have been identified. It is unknown if the incident is related to Urban Beach Weekend.
