2 Giant Otter Pups Born at Zoo Miami

Two giant otter pups have been born at Zoo Miami.

The brothers were born Dec. 19 and have been kept in a secluded den with their parents. The endangered infants represent the fifth successful litter for Kara and Witoto at the zoo.

A zoo spokesman says the pups will not be placed on exhibit for several more weeks. While only about 2-feet-long now, they could grow to be nearly 6-feet-long and weigh close to 75 pounds as adults.

The Miami Herald reports that giant otters are found in isolated and remote areas near fresh water lakes, rivers, creeks and reservoirs in South America.
