1. West Virginia coal executive Chris Cline and six others died Thursday after a helicopter carrying the seven Americans to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., crashed off Grand Cay island in the Bahamas.

2. A Miami Dolphins football player, Kendrick Norton, is in the hospital after he had his arm amputated following an early morning car crash. Norton's agent told NBC 6 he will require additional surgeries.

3. The family of a 14-year-old boy who nearly drowned while swimming in a canal said the teen is doing fine days after the near-death experience in North Miami Beach.

4. Making a court appearance on Friday is 39-year-old Ernest Joseph Roberts, the former high school assistant principal arrested and charged with killing Kameela Russell, a single mother from Miami Gardens whose body was found in a canal after she went missing for nearly two weeks.

5. After a sensational win against tennis legend Venus Williams, 15-year-old Coco Gauff will play Slovenia's Polona Hercog in the third round.

Coco beat five-time champion Williams 6-4, 6-4 in a first-round meeting between two players with a 24-year age gap. 

6. Saturday is National Fried Chicken Day. Some friend chicken restaurant chains, such as Church's Chicken, Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen and KFC have special deals for the occassion.
